Protesting vendors urge meeting with mayor

15:18 • 19.01.11

A crowd of demonstrators has gathered outside the building of Yerevan Municipality, protesting against Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan's recent decision to ban street vending.

People trading in open air in different districts of Yerevan urge that the mayor come out to meet them and answer their questions in person.

"He must be responsible for declaring a hunger-strike for so many people," they exclaimed.

Holding up posters with the words "Mayor, you haven't been Elected by the People", " Don't be afraid, we are armless," the protesters were chanting the words "Employment" and "Resignation".

They even attempted to break into the building but were met with resistance from the police.
