Armenia’s authorities want the opposition forces to get into Parliament as a result of the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the political scientist Edgar Vardanyan told journalists Jan. 23.

“The reason is that the authorities are well aware that opposition forces in Parliament mean there is not a grave political crisis in Armenia,” he said.

“This is an opportunity to show the international community that we are not an authoritarian state, but are for reforms. The opposition will constitute a parliamentary minority and will not influence important decisions,” Vardanyan said.

According to him, the opposition forces that may get into parliament will be able to raise issues, take the floor and enjoy the right to have their representatives in monitoring bodies.
