Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan visited on Saturday the Malayan Ophtalmological Center of Yerevan to get familiarized with the medical services and development plans of the clinic, the Government’s Press Service reported.

The Center currently offers unique interventions, including vetro retinal surgeries, eye membrane transplantation and prosthetics, as well as treatment of glaucoma and inborn infections, and plastic surgeries.

It is now developing its refractive surgeries department to achieve the full treatment of short-sightedness and long-sightedness. The department now imports nanotechnologies to improve the vision of the young and employable population. So far, it has performed 1,950 laser surgeries.

The principal partner of the Armenian-American Eye Project initiative since 1992, the Center has been equipped with up-to-date medical devices and medicines and opened a mobile clinic that periodically offers diagnostic services and surgeries to the disadvantaged population across the republic. Since inception, it has performed 50,000 checkups and 4,000 laser surgeries.

The Center has also opened a branch in Gyumri to assist population in the second largest city. It has repaired a department in one of Gyumri’s hospitals, providing it with up-to-date surgical equipment.
