Yerevan saw today the solemn opening of the statue to Alexander Mantashev, a great Armenian oil magnate, industrialist and philanthropist who gained the recognition of one of the world’s wealthiest men at the end of his life.

The sculpture was unveiled by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan at a ceremony that had attracted a crowd of cultural and political figures.

Mantashev’s son and grandson, Mikhail and Alexander Mantashyans who are now in Yerevan, also attended the event. They both said they are highly impressed by the great work.

“I have very good and exciting impressions. I was looking [at the sculpture] the day before yesterday; a very good, talented job. They memories will remain alive forever,” Alexander Mantashyan the junior said.

The author of the statue is artist Tigran Arzumanyan.
