Armenia’s Constitutional Court to consider parties’ claim day before elections

21:00 • 30.04.12

The interparty campaign headquarters formed to supervise the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, as well as the Political Scientists’ Union of Armenia, reports that the Constitution Court of Armenia has accepted for proceedings a claim lodged by members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) and Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP).

The claimants demand that, on the basis of Article 101, Section 1, Subsection 3 of Armenia’s Constitution, the Constitutional Court (CC) rule unconstitutional Subsection 3, Section 1, Article 31, as well as Subsection 2, Section 1, Article 33. The CC is to consider the claim on May 5.

Should the CC uphold the claim, the May 6 elections will be followed by publication of the lists of voters that actually took part in the voting. The measure is expected to enhance the reliability of the election process and improve verification of the number of voters.
