US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Armenia was a sign of the Western powers’ desire to attract the country, Azerbaijani political analyst has said.
According to Mubariz Ahmedoglu, the Director of the Center of Political Innovations and Technologies, the United States relies on Armenia in the South Caucasus region.
“Despite the election irregularities, Hillary Clinton praised [President] Serzh Sargsyan for the polls, and discussed with him possibilities of conducting pro-Western policies in the country,” SalamNews.az has quoted him saying.
The expert noted that the United States is interested in processes linked to Armenia, as well as the normalization of the Armenia-Turkey ties and the chance to use the country’s potentials to increase its pressures against Iran.
He said further that the US is not currently much interested in Georgia, adding that Clinton’s visit to the country was a gesture not to offend the Georgians.
As for the US-Azerbaijani relations, the expert said his country is not depended on the United States in terms of its energy policies.
“At this point, we can speak only of extending cooperation. Azerbaijan is not and will not ever be involved in the United States anti-Iranian plans,” he added.
