Republican party rep on Oskanian’s criminal case

14:03 • 14.06.12

Member of the Republican Party of Armenia Artak Davtyan abstained from commenting whether the criminal case opened against Vartan Oskanian is a coincidence or an accident.

“I will refrain from giving additional comments, there is a fact, a criminal case and presumption of innocence. Get armed with patience and follow the further developments,” he advised.

The Republican party’s representative said he is not sharing the viewpoint of the ex-foreign minister about the political order followed Oskanian’s criticism of the authorities. “It would have been more frank if he had voiced criticism during the years of his tenure in office. What we have now cannot be compared with what there was then,” he stressed, adding that more probably during the years in office Oskanian himself implemented political orders.

In any case, Davtyan said unlike other political forces the Republican party has never said everything is perfect there. “We have always stated that both the positive and negative existing now is the result of our work. We are speaking about a concrete person, a person who worked from inside and seems not to have noticed the log in his own eye but sees the splinter in other's eye.”

As to the possibility of Vartan Oskanian’s nomination in the upcoming presidential elections, Davtyan said it is the right of not only Oskanian but each Armenian citizen. “If Oskanian wants to test his strength it is his and his party’s right,” Davtyan said.

Asked whether he believes Oskanian to “launder” $2 million, Davtyan said during the years of his tenure in office Oskanian has registered positive results as well but as far as there is a concrete fact Davtyan again advised to wait.
