Azerbaijan’s foreign minister has expressed his country’s agreement to elaborate investigation mechanisms for border incidents.

Trend.az has quoted Elmar Mammadyarov as  saying that such mechanisms would strengthen the status quo over Nagorno-Karabakh in the short run.
 

Speaking at a news conference in Baku, Mammadyarov also addressed the deal over the Gabalin radar, noting that Russia will resolve the issue of its leasing by the end of this year.

“It is early, for now, to speak of the outcome of the talks. The sides are still in the middle of discussions,” he said.

The Gabalin station was built in the Soviet period as a key element of the USSR anti-missile defense system. The contract allowing Russia to exploit the radar will expire at the end of 2012; Azerbaijan now demands $300 million for renewing the deal.
