The personal archive of renowned opera singer and stage director Tigran Levonyan was submitted on Wednesday to the Yeghishe Charents Literature and Art Museum.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Museum’s director, Karo Vardanyan, said the archive comprises over 8,000 items, including handwritten papers, articles and studies about the merited artist, as well as photos.

“Everything related to Tigran Levonyan is in the archive,” he said, adding that the submitted materials are also available in a digital format.

Khachik Sharoyan, who has digitalized the archive, said it is a big honor for him to work with Levonyan’s papers. He particularly stressed the importance of the simplified search mechanism allowing scholars who wish to write about the artist to easily find the information they need.


In his speech, President of the Union of Theatrical Figures Yervand Ghazanchyan said he always comes up with conflicting emotions when speaking about the artist.

“First of all, it is the sense of pride, and secondly, the unconscientious attitude towards that person,” he said, remembering how Levonyan’s home arrest in the Soviet period had negative consequences not only for the singer, but also and more importantly - for culture.
