The paper writes about the first sitting of the Economic Affairs Standing Committee of the National Assembly, with a number of newly-elected MPs offering provision of wider authorities to the remote areas of the country.

The paper says it is not the first case when such serious discussion is being elaborated over the topic while still nothing is being changed in Armenia. The fact is that while the bureaucrats are sitting in Yerevan trying to solve the fate of the bordering communities, the villages are emptying with alarming speed.

Barekamavan village of Tavush region is the closest settlement to the border with Azerbaijan. Head of the community Garik Abazyan told Zhoghovurd that in 2008 the population of Barekamavan was 595 while as of May 2012 their number decreased to 335. It means that 260 people have abandoned the community for good.

“In 90s 330 children were attending school here, while today their number is 34. The situation in the community is disastrous,” the head of the village said. Speaking about the issues of the community, Abazyan said it is easier to say what the community has, than what it does not, as in reality there is almost nothing in the village.
