French-Armenian activist and Karabakh war hero Sargis Hatspanyan, who was jailed over the March 2008 post-election turmoil, has finally obtained the right to legal residence in Armenia, the paper has learned.

Citing its sources, it says that the activist was granted a one-year residence status on Wednesday, the day the Hatspanyans were celebrating their daughter’s birthday.

“It is commendable that Hatspanyan was also granted the right to exit as he can now realize his desire to visit his father’s grave in Germany,” the paper says, adding that the activist’s father died when he was in prison.
