Ruling party’s vice leader on Harsnaqar incident

The lack of respect for one another caused the recent violence in Harsnaqar restaurant, according to Razmik Zohrabyan, the vice chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
Commenting on the recent incident in Harsnaqar at a Monday news conference, Zohrabyan said that the practice of going to restaurant drunk and losing temper after the third or fourth glass very often provokes such aggression.
“There are people who keep their temper, but there are others who do not,” he said, not ruling out the possibility that the doctors beaten by security guards might have been under the influence of alcohol.
Three military doctors were beaten in Harsnaqar restaurant on June 17 in a major scuffle with security guards. One of them, Major Vahe Avetyan, remains in a critical condition after a big surgery. Doctors no longer inspire positive hopes for his recovery.
According to Zohrabyan, such violence is not typical only to Armenia, as the countries across Europe also see similar scuffles periodically.
Asked how he knew that the doctors might have been drunk, Zohrabyan said he had learned that from the media.
Zohrabyan claimed that the guards beat the men for security reasons, not just for resorting to violence. As for punishing the culprits, he said only inquest could be best means to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
