MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Tachat Vardapetyan born in Armenian-populated Georgian region of Javakhk spoke about the great number of issues the region is facing, though, as he said, the issues are gradually being solved.
He said the main problem in Javakhk is unemployment and he is going to voice the issue from the NA platform.
People of Javakhk are leaving their country to work abroad but steps are being undertaken to solve the issue, the MP said, adding that for instance last year Balis beer factory was put into operation, creating 120 jobs in Akhalkalak. “Of course it is a positive step but it does not solve the issue,” he said.
“According to statistics more than 400 thousand Armenians are living in Georgia, with most of them focused in Javakhk, though their number has decreased,” he stressed at the same time mentioning that the number of Armenians leaving the territory has comparatively reduced. Vardapetyan confirmed the information that the number of Armenians there is decreasing and the number of Turks and Azerbaijanis is increasing.
“Works are being organized with the participation of Azeris. We have expressed our concern over it. The thing is that an Azerbaijani company has won in the tender on construction of Kars-Akhalkalak railway though it cannot force Armenians leave Javakhk,” the MP said.
