The agricultural fair, operating in Yerevan’s Kasyan street every week-end, re-opened on Saturday after a short interval.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan.

Speaking to Tert.am, the minister said that the market, which was launched last year, has been significantly improved to offer better conditions of trading.

“The existing shortcomings be no longer be observed. The first thing to say that is we have only villagers vending here. There are no profiteers as we have [established] strict control. We have employees who follow that [all vendors] have certificates and be from different villages,” he said, adding that the agricultural produce is absolutely fresh, with the prices being reasonable.

Karapetyan further unveiled plans of opening a second agricultural fair.

“We will launch a second market if there is a demand,” he said, noting that the move would serve as a counterbalance for other markets.

While the existing fair has 160 pavilions, the new one will have around 200, the minister added.

Praising the initiative, Mayor Margaryan said that there is already an agreement for increasing the markets’ number. He also promised to allot new territories upon necessity.
