The newspaper’s editorial reads:

“Ruben Hairapetyan’s resignation was staged at the presidential residence yesterday. At about 8:00pm Ruben Hairapetyan left the presidential residence, without saying anything to journalists. Just 20 minutes later, he issued a heart-rending statement on his ‘mourning’. Hairapetyan announced his resignation from parliament. So the public demand can be considered party satisfied but for a number of essential points,” the newspaper writes.

After enumerating a number of legal procedures the newspaper writes that Ruben Hairapetyan will actually be unseated at the end of September. However, the newspaper writes, Mr Hairapetyan may also regret his decision. He may also be appointed a minister or even prime minister. It sounds absurd now. However, Gagik Beglaryan resigned from the post of Yerevan Mayor after the notorious incident, but he has been appointed Minister of Transport and Communication.

In any case the authorities hope Hairapetyan’s resignation will defuse public discontent.
