NATO is concerned over the tension along the Line of Contact between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces, James Apathurai, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia said in Baku.

He reminded that NATO is not engaged in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process but assists the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“We want the parties reach peace. NATO is for the establishment of peace and security in the region,” he said.

Asked about possible membership of Azerbaijan to NATO, Apathurai said there is no such issue on the agenda.

“We will continue cooperation with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani soldiers are actively participating in military actions in Afghanistan. We highly assess it,” he said.
