President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy said in the course of his visit to Georgia that the country has made a notable progress, and called for continuing the reforms in the same spirit.

He particularly praised the state institution building efforts and the enhanced level of services, as well as the investment atmosphere. The European official considered Georgia a good example for the region and other countries across the globe.

Rompuy said that the EU and Georgia are rapidly developing collaboration, with the negotiations over free trade and visa liberalization being in progress. He expressed hope that the Georgian authorities will ensure the country’s stability and welfare in the final stage of the reforms.

The EU official is said to have already departed for Azerbaijan and met with the country’s president, Ilham Aliyev.
