The OSCE Secretary General has warned against any attempts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by use of force.

Speaking in Baku, Lamberto Zannier said that the conflict poses serious security threats to the South Caucasus region, hampering its economic development.

The OSCE chief expressed concerns over the tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the recent incidents on the Line of Contact.

He said that the human losses caused by border clashes, as well as the current status quo over Karabakh cannot be considered acceptable.

Zannier proposed several methods for withdrawing the snipers, calling for confidence building measures and mechanisms to investigate the border incidents.

The OSCE official is on his first ever visit to the South Caucasus. He is leaving Baku for Tbilisi and Batumi on Tuesday and will be in Yerevan on July 11 and 12.
