Hraparak: Armenian parliamentary delegation to monitor election in Karabakh

10:57 • 14.07.12

Armenia’s National Assembly has asked the parliament of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to consider a proposal for sending observers to the country to monitor the July 19 presidential polls, the paper has learned.

The chief of the ruling Republican Party faction, Galust Sahakyan, was reportedly engaged in active processes on Friday. He is said to have rejected a request by Levon Zurabyan, the head of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), for a petition to hold a special parliament session, and asked him instead to join an observer mission leaving for Karabakh.

Unlike the Republican representative, the ANC coordinator agreed to the proposal, promising to consider the details later, says the paper, adding that the delegation set to depart to the country was known by the end of the day. It will reportedly include ten members, each parliamentary faction having two representatives. According to the country, they will travel to Karabakh on July 18 to observe the election together with representatives of the European Parliament and the Russian State Duma.
