State Engineering University sees tough contest for IT specializations

The State Engineering University of Armenia this year saw a tough competition for departments offering specializations in the IT sector.

The University’s rector, Ara Avetisyan, told a news conference on Friday that the majority of entrants applied for the Departments of Cybernetics and Computer Sciences.

He noted in the meantime that they have vacant seats in the Departments of Chemical Technologies, Mining Industries and Machine Engineering.

Avetisyan said that they launched 1,286 vacant seats this year, with only 243 offering tuition free-of-charge. As for the entrants who applied to the University as an institution of their first choice, their number is 1,302.

“As a result, 1,170 students have been admitted to the University, the vast majority being first choice applicant,” he said.

Avetisyan added the university this year organized admission for three new specializations – nuclear power plants and their technical maintenance, energy automation (Energy Department), and Food Security Technologies (Chemistry Technology Department).
