Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan participated in a meeting of the Board, RA Police.

The meeting summed up the activities of local police departments for the first half of 2012.

Before the agenda was discussed, the Armenian leader pointed out the need for further improvement of the system.

He pointed out minor progress in the activities of police troops and external service.

Armenia’s president was critical of the Internal Security Service. “I do not remember any instance of prosecution on the basis of the service-prepared materials. If so, who needs this service? Moreover, along with faults, crimes are committed,” Serzh Sargsyan said.

“If the Internal Security Service is unable to disclose at least some of the crimes every year, it does not operate properly. So it should either improve its work or it will be closed down,” the Armenian leader said.

He pointed out progress in detection of previously committed crimes that evoked a wide public response.

“However, we have more unsolved problems than achievements. In question are also unacceptable practices in the police system,” Serzh Sargsyan said.

“We must continue our progress and start dealing with problems in other aspects,” the president said.
