Tigran Arakelyan, a young activist of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC), has been sentenced to six years in prison

Gagik Poghosyan, Judge of the minor court in Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork Marash communities, also sentenced other ANC members – Sargis Gevorgyan, David Karamijyan and Artak Gevorgyan – to 2-3 years in prison.

ANC activists held a protest in front of the court.

Nikol Pashinyan and Aram Manukyan, members of the ANC parliamentary group, were present at the court sitting.

On August 9, 2011, seven ANC activists had a conflict with policemen. They were detained. Three of them were charged and put under 2-month arrest. On August 12, Tigran Arakelyan was charged with hooliganism and violence against a public agent.
