A lawmaker of Russia’s Liberal-Democratic Party, Alexander Bobelov, has told REGNUM News Agency that he sees no reason why Nagorno-Karabakh should not gain recognition like Kosovo.

“The West all the time speaks of democratization, but that democracy is always many-sided in the western scenarios. It is not right that Kosovo is recognized while Karabakh is not. On what grounds? There was a war and a referendum both there and here,” said Bebelov, who monitored the recent presidential election in Karabakh.

Ivan Sukharev, another member of Russia’s State Duma, said the election in Karabakh was fair and does not deserve a negative evaluation.

According to Denis Dvornikov, a representative of the country’s Public Council, Karabakh’s compliance with the concept of state is not subject to any consideration at all.

“There are international norms for the self-determination of peoples, and they are higher than the fantasies about territorial integrity,” he said.
