Heritage party rep to be happy if backed by non-coalition forces

Heritage opposition party has not yet decided over nomination of party’s secretary Styopa Safaryan in number 1 electoral constituency but the latter would have been happy if non-coalition political forces support him.

“Though this support is very crucial for me, I first of all value the voter’s trust. I think Armenian National Congress opposition bloc, Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutiun and Prosperous Armenia party are unlikely to back me like they have not done it at May 6 polls,” Safaryan told the reporters on Tuesday.

Member of the Republican Party of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan nominated in Avan constituency at May 6 parliamentary elections together with Styopa Safaryan was re-elected but has stated about waiving his mandate after the tragic death of military doctor Vahe Avetyan at the restaurant owned by him.

Speaking about Heritage party’s participation in local self-governmental elections, Safaryan said they have representatives in different communities but the issue on their nomination should still be discussed. He said the party will discuss the issue and publicize its decision.

As to mayoral elections in Gyumri, Safaryan said they will not nominate candidate.
The elections are slated there for September. Only Prosperous Armenia party member Samvel Balasanyan has nominated his candidacy.
