Agriculture sector is expected to register some 8-9 per cent of growth by the end of the year, Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan told the reporters on Wednesday.

Briefing on the results of the first half of the running year, the minister said progress has been registered with flaws still existing.

The minister said in the first half the agricultural products made 203,6 billion Armenian drams – 8.1 per cent more as compared with the same span of the past year.

In plant breeding sector the growth made 28%, in cattle breeding sector 2% and in fish breeding 25.2%.

According to the minister serious success has been registered in apricot export. This year 12,3 thousand tons of apricot has been exported against 7300 of the past year. The minister said the apricot harvest gathering is still under way in mountainous areas.

Sergo Karapetyan also said grape, peach, apple harvests are going to be good ones this year. The problems exist with grain crops. Their harvest will decrease.

The minister said the sector’s problem is connected with the legislative field but it is being worked out.
