Arsen Galstyan, the Armenian sportsman representing Russia in the 2012 London Olympics, upset the top two seeds to win the men's under-60kg gold medal at the Olympics on Saturday.
According to AFP, the fourth seed produced a stunning finale to flatten Japan's second seed Hiroaki Hiraoka just 40 seconds into the final with a sweeping, winding throw.
World champion Rishod Sobirov was upset by Galstyan in the semi-final but earned some measure of ecompense by winning a second straight bronze medal as he beat France's Sofiane Milous.
Brazilian Felipe Kitadai had upset eighth seed Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj of Mongolia in his first bout and went on to beat Italy's Elio Verde for the other bronze.
