A number of non-governmental and human rights organizations released a statement in defense of young activists of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc demanding suspension of criminal persecution against them.

The statement claims the Yerevan court has convicted the opposition activists by violating the law.

According to statement, a lot of witnesses could have given truthful information about the incident, while they were not interrogated, and the accusation was built up on the testimonies of police officers only.

The human rights organizations that signed under the statement demand stopping criminal, political persecutions against the opposition activists.

“We also call on the international human rights organization to draw their attention on the case and not spare efforts to stop the persecutions against activists,” the statement runs.
