A 50-year-old Armenian from Glendale was arrested Sunday after he allegedly fought a teen who crashed a car into a tree in West Glendale, police said.
The man, Armen Urutyan, was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly beat up the
driver, a 17-year-old boy whose name wasn’t released because he’s a minor, Glendale News-Press reported.
The teen was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his Nissan Altima into the tree in front of an apartment building in the 300 block of Concord Street, police said.
Officers found men arguing and fighting about 4:03 a.m. when they arrived to the crash scene, where they observed blood flowing down the teen’s face.
Witnesses told police the teen was driving when he crashed into the tree and then heard men screaming, according to police reports.
Urutyan allegedly punched the teen in the face, causing him to fall. Witnesses said Urutyan then kicked the teen several times until officers arrived, according to police reports.
The teen declined to go into details about the assault because he said he was “not a snitch,” police said.
Urutyan told police that he was inside his home when he heard people being loud outside, so he told them to be quiet, according to police.
But he said the teen yelled profanity at him, and when Urutyan allegedly confronted the teen, he was punched him in the face, police said.
At that point, the group of men who were outside began fighting. Urutyan told police he was allegedly trying to defend himself.
