Zhoghovurd: Conclusion over gas filled balloon explosion available

Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has already issued its conclusion over the explosion of gas- filled balloons at the ruling Republican Party’s final pre-election rally concert early in early May, the paper has learned.

The chief of the Ministry’s Fire Inspection, Avetik Mkrtchyan, has told the paper that they have already sent an act to the General Prosecutor’s Office, which is due to submit the document to the Armenian Police.

Speaking to the paper later, Arsen Ayvazyan, a chief of the General Investigation Department of the Police, confirmed that the balloons had been filled with methane.

“We have received the conclusion which says that the balloons were filled with condensed methane, while the blast was caused by an open fire. But methane, in general is a dangerous gas, as it becomes flammable after mixing with air. That mixture is very sensitive to fire, and that caused the blast,” he was quoted as saying.

However, the police are still silent on the question who gave the instruction to fill the balloons with methane, the paper comments.
