Zhoghovurd: Jermuk Group employees on strike?

09:08 • 03.08.12

The paper says it has learned from “well-informed sources” that the employees of Jermuk Group, Armenia’s largest mineral and spring water producer, declared a strike in the southern city of Jermuk on Monday.

They reportedly complained that their monthly salary, which is 85,000 Drams (about $200), is very low for the kind of work they do.

Citing its sources, the paper says that Jermuk Group Director Anastas Arsenyan had joined the strike, pretending to be an ordinary worker but promising instead to talk the matter over with his brother, Ashot Arsenyan, a member of Armenia’s National Assembly.

Speaking to the paper, however, Aresenyan denied the report on any strike.

“Our worker gets 85,000 Drams, but we are planning to raise the salaries beginning January. If there is a place offering a worker a salary higher than 85,000 Drams, he is welcome to go there to work,” he was quoted as saying.
