The activists of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc have gathered today in front of prosecutor general’s office demanding freedom for the convicted ANC activists whom they call political prisoners.
ANC activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit Kiramijyan were convicted and sentenced from two to six years in prison.
ANC member Areg Gevorgyan said they demand freedom for Tigran Arakelyan who has already spent a year in prison and acquittal for other three young people.
“We all understand that the institution who smoothered the March 1 case and other crimes cannot make a fair decision. We will gather here every Friday to show our determination and will to fight till our friends are freed,” he said.
Another ANC member Zaruhi Hovhannisyan said the order to sentence the young people comes from president’s residence.
“Criminals are calmly walking in streets today while citizens fighting for creation of legal state are sent to prisons. It is a political decision,” she said.
The activists informed that every Friday they will conduct a protest action in front of prosecutor general’s office.
