Prosperous Armenia, ANC seriously prepare for local elections

The two major political forces of Armenia, the Prosperous Armenia party (PAP) and the opposition alliance Armenian National Congress (ANC), are seriously preparing for the local self-government elections slated September 9.

Though the Prosperous Armenia is still continuing its discussions, the spokesperson of the party, Naira Zohrabyan says the PAP is sure to nominate its candidate in the overwhelming majority of the communities.

The local elections are scheduled in around 500 communities of five regions – Ararat, Armavir, Lori, Shirak and Syunik.

The opposition alliance is also considering its plans and is said to have no final decision for now.

Speaking to Tert.am, Lyudmila Sargsyan of the ANC faction in parliament said they haven’t decided possible candidates’ names yet.

“There are no finalized decisions concerning the candidates, but we already know definitely where we are going to run for election,” she said, adding that the alliance will be especially active in nominating candidates for elders’ councils.
