Advantages and disadvantages of hot summer

15:09 • 04.08.12

A hot summer can have both negative and positive impacts on people with chronic diseases, says Mikael Adamyan, a cardiologist.

Speaking to Тert.am, the doctor said a high air temperature reduces the risk of a high blood pressure, heart failure etc. Meantime, he recommended against direct exposure to sun rays in extremely hot temperatures (topping 400C).

“Heat measuring 300C-350C is perfect for cardiacs as they bear such temperature very well,” he said.

The doctor stressed the importance of using large quantities of liquids in summer time, adding at the same time that is not very safe for people with heart diseases.

Asked about restrictions, he said that cardiacs should use no more than 1.5 liters of water per day.

According to Ruzan Khundkaryan, a doctor-radiologist, the activity of radiological diseases is not normally high in this period. Instead, she says patients with vascular problems start visiting medical centers more frequently in summer. The doctor pointed out to varicose dilatations and oedemas as the most widespread problems in the summer period.

“And also, there are more patients who catch a cold from different air-conditioning devices,” she added.

The doctor noted with satisfaction that the Armenian women suffering from different breast diseases have developed the culture of visiting doctors before leaving for seaside.
