At his meeting with journalists on Friday, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Spokesman for Armenia’s Ministry of Defense, refuted the reports that some military units may be dissolved.

“No military unit will be closed in Armenia. We have an army recruitment program for many years, which envisages conscription and more contract servicemen. The program is being consistently implemented,” he said.

With respect to conscription, Hovhannisyan said that reformed are planned in this field.

“We are implementing a reform program, and further reforms are not ruled out, which will involve both military personnel and medical staff,” Hovhannisyan said.

Colonel Armenak Vardanyan, who was present at the press conference, spoke of the Armenian army’s combat readiness. He stressed that numerical strength is not always a factor of success.

“Year to year, we are raising both the number of military maneuvers and their quality,” Vardanyan said.

“We have raised the level of maneuvers that they are interesting for soldiers,” he said.
