Armenian ambassador to Iran meets with Atropatene governor

Armenian Ambassador to Iran Grigor Arakelyan held a meeting with Mr Ahmad Alireza Beigi, Governor of Atropatene, Iran, in Tabriz.

He conveyed condolences on behalf of the governors of Armenia’s Syunik and Tavush regions on the devastating earthquake in the region, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

Ambassador Arakelyan noted that five heavy-haulers with humanitarian aid arrived in Iran from Armenia.

Governor Ahmad Alireza Beigi expressed his gratitude and stressed the importance of humanitarian aid in such critical times.

He said that the earthquake destroyed 314 villages, and casualties totaling 300,000. Mr Ahmad Alireza Beigi informed the Armenian ambassador that 74,000 people are now living in tent camps, and the construction of housing for 22,000 has got under way.
