The first hearing over the explosion of gas-filled balloons that left over two hundred people injured in Yerevan’s central square at the ruling Republican Party’s final pre-election concert rally at the beginning of May is scheduled for August 30, the paper says, citing the judicial portal Datalex.

The only defendant in the case is the 54-year-old Serob Bozoyan who was earlier reported to be selling ordinary balloons in the streets of Yerevan. The indictment suggests that his homemade products which he released and sold on May 4 posed life and health hazards to potential consumers, and eventually left 228 with different degrees of burns later in the day. Though initially 228 survivors are mentioned, their number reduces to 64 on the next page of the document, says that paper, questioning the reasons behind that fact.

“It still remains unknown how the Prosecutor’s Office will insist on the groundless hypothesis that Bozoyan alone blew up and realized 7,000 balloons,” the paper comments further.
