Turkey and Syria are to start a direct dialogue after the incident that happened near the Turkish-Syrian border, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today.

Russian RIA Novosti reports that the minister said Syrian side is interested in restoration of relations with Turkey, voicing hope that the Turkish side as well is ready for contacts with Damascus.

“The best way to solve a conflict is through direct contact. It is the easiest way to solve the issues. We are interested in the establishment of the direct ties between them,” Lavrov said.

The conflict between Syria and Turkey escalated after October 3 after a Syrian mortar landed near a Turkish village killing five. Turkey responded with military actions against Syria.
