Fares 100 drams again in Armenia’s capital

20:26 • 25.07.13

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan convened a meeting with officials in charge of the transport system and instructed them to suspend the decision on a fare rise.

The Yerevan Municipality released a statement, which reads:

“It is obvious that we cannot lay the burden of fare rise on socially vulnerable sections of the population. Complete formation of the system will take about a year, but this burden has been placed on pensioners, students and other socially vulnerable sections. I have ordered a commission to be formed of professionals and interested people to work out mechanisms that would allow us to review the fare rates..."

On July 20, a 50% fare rise was announced in Yerevan – from AMD 100 up to AMD 150, which caused public discontent.
