Armenian actor Sos Sargsyan passes away

The merited Armenian actor Sos Sargsyan died on Thursday at the age of 84.


The actor was born on October 24, 1929 in Stepanavan (Lori region). In 1948, he moved to Yerevan to start a career at the Young People’s Theatre. A graduate of the Yerevan State Theatrical Institute (1954), Sargsyan for many years worked at the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre.


In 1991, the actor founded the Pan-National Theatre. From 1997 until 2006, he was the rector of the Cinema and Theatre Institute. In 2009, Sargsyan was elected a member of Armenia’s Public Council. A leading hero of over 40 feature films, the actor is best known to the Armenian public from the movies, “Guys from the Army Band”, “Triangle”, “We and Our Mountains”, “Nahapet” etc.

Sos Sargsyan also played in movies produced by Russian and other Soviet film-makers.
