Sargsyan, Putin discuss Armenian-Russian partnership
The Armenian and Russian leaders discussed on Friday the bilateral relations' agenda as they met at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan after attending the Genocide commemoration events.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Armenia Friday morning to take part in the centennial remembrance ceremony. He was one of the four state leaders to join the event in Yerevan’s Tsitsernakaberd park.
Thanking his Russian counterpart for being next to the Armenians on such a remarkable anniversary, President Serzh Sargsyan also highly praised his speech delivered at the event. He said the exciting words sounded to him and the entire Armenian people as an address by the leader of an ally state, reports the presidential press service.
“In your speech today, you said that as early as 100 years ago, the Russian Federation recognized and, together with the governments of France and Great Britain, considered the acts perpetrated by the Ottoman government against the Armenians crimes against humanity. It is truly my pleasure to state that it testifies to the consistency of the Russian policies. I am enormously thankful to you for coming here. Welcome to Armenia once again,” said the Armenian leader.
The other country leaders who have visited Armenia to pay respect to the Genocide victims are the presidents of France, Cyprus and Serbia.
President Putin thanked Mr Sargsyan for the invitation, reiterating the unique character of partnership between Armenia and Russia.
“All that has very deep roots. We have always been close allies and so will be in future. The relations between our countries are developing today. I will not speak of politics for now as that’s something evidently clear: we support one another on international platforms. Our foreign ministries also closely collaborate, and we also develop relations in integration processes. So I am very happy that Armenia has joined the Eurasian Economic Union. The economic relations have positive dynamics,” the Russian leader said.
He added that despite the difficulties last year (the Western powers’ sanctions against Russia), the two countries managed also to maintain the positive dynamics in the trade turnover, with the increasing Russian investments accounting for 40% of the total foreign investments in Armenia.
At the end, the Russian leader once again thanked President Sargsyan for the invitation, hailing the opportunity to once again discuss the bilateral dialogue.
