Kim Kardashian's idyllic childhood was shattered by her mum's affair and OJ Simpson arrest
In the first installment of its three-part series, Mirror Online looks at Kim Kardashian's younger years. School with Paris Hilton, luxury holidays, a BMW for her birthday and loved by parents Kris and Robert, but it couldn't keep Kim cocooned from the tragedy of family splits and murder as author Sean Smith's new book reveals.
Kim Kardashian was born into wealth and luxury and spent her early years surrounded by the rich and famous but life didn't always go smoothly and there was plenty of drama and hearthache.
In the first of a exclusive three-part series, renowned celebrity author Sean Smithlifts the lid on the worldwide phenomenon which is Kim Kardashian.
After painstaking research he has put together the definitive account of her life, from childhood, through her rise to fame, right up to today as one of the most recognised names on the planet.
The Kardashians were renowned for throwing the best parties in their ultra-exclusive neighbourhood in Beverly Hills.
Kim’s family mansion had a large swimming pool, a tennis court, a Jacuzzi and a bar by the pool. To buy it in 2015 would cost more than £4 million.
A housekeeper took care of the shopping and the washing allowing Kim’s mother, Kris, the time to go out for lunch with friends while her children attended private schools.
Her home in a private cul-de-sac called Tower Lane was paradise for Kimberly, as she was known. Her doting father, Robert Kardashian called her Kimbo.
She and her elder sister Kourtney were close together in age, wore the same outfits, and often resembled twins.
They even shared a bedroom, although there was plenty of space inside the house for them and the two younger children, Khloé and Robert Jr.
There were cats and dogs, rabbits and birds and lots of dressing up. Kim was a very sweet and pretty child, as her dad’s countless home videos showed.
At weekends, her parents had celebrity friends round for tennis and dinner.
Famous stars like boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard, Lionel Richie and the American football hero O.J. Simpson gathered round the barbecue to relax and swap stories.
Robert Kardashian’s family had made millions in the meat packing trade in California after Kim’s great grandparents fled Armenia in 1913.
He was brought up, just as his own children would be, with wealth and privilege but preferred to become a lawyer and entrepreneur instead of joining the family business, making his own fortune and buying a treasured Rolls Royce while still in his twenties.
It was her beloved father’s influence which gave Kim and the rest of the Kardashians their sense of adventure in business.
But he also instilled a strong sense of family unity and a pride in their Armenian heritage and Christian roots.
He would say his prayers by his bedside every morning, say grace before every meal and mix Kim’s bedtime stories with the occasional tale from the bible he carried around with him.
The bible her father gave her would become one of Kim’s most treasured possessions.
Kim’s mother and father were regular attendees at the weekly bible studies at the house of the fifties heartthrob Pat Boone where they would join celebrity neighbours such as Doris Day and
Priscilla Presley. Boone was well known for baptising some 250 people in his swimming pool.
Kim’s perfect world fell apart in 1990 when she was ten. Her parents called everyone together and announced that they were getting a divorce.
Kim and her two sisters were in floods of tears but her mother and father did their best not to reveal the anguish and bitterness involved.
Kris Kardashian was having an affair with a soccer player, ten years her junior and Robert found out, resulting in an acrimonious divorce.
The shattering effect on the family, particularly the two eldest girls, became clear in divorce papers. One day Kim found her mother crying and became so distraught she didn’t want to go to school.
She was so worried that her mother was going to leave them that she called her continually, begging her to come home.
