Electoral reforms to cost US $35,000

The implementation of the proposed reforms to Electoral Code will cost an estimated 16 million Armenian Drams or about $ 35 US Dollars, the chief of the presidential staff said today, elaborating on the package.

In a speech at the cabinet meeting, Vigen Sargsyan described the plan to revise the amended legislation as the result of an exceptional agreement with the civil society to meet the latter’s demands and expectations.

“Different organizations have estimated the reforms’ implementation costs at $16 million,” he said.

The reforms propose, among other things, revising the timeframes of appealing against election results, allowing video shooting and online livestreaming from polling stations and introducing fingerprint voting procedures.  

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan asked the cabinet to approve the bill to later embark on its consideration and signing.
