Daredevil pensioners who go skydiving, abseiling and slacklining between skyscrapers on TV
A group of grandmothers are proving you're never too old to take on a new challenge as they take on skydiving, water rafting and urban slacklining on a new TV series, the Daily Mail reports.
Ann, 77, and Joy, 73, both from London, Roz, 65, from Singapore, and Grace, 73, from Glasgow, join Irish daredevil Nancy Ashmawy, 74, on the new Sky 1 series 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammies, which begins this week.
Nancy, a retired nurse from Dublin, is an old hand at taking on such terrifying adventures around the world, as she has previously filmed two series of the show with her son, Irish TV and radio presenter Baz Ashmawy.
In previous episodes she as jumped out of a plane, sat on a crocodile and done a bungee jump off a bridge between two mountains.
On the new series, she and her brave peers will edgewalk around the CN Tower and slackline between skyscrapers in Toronto, paraglide in Dubai and go barehand fishing in a Peruvian jungle.
They also abseil down a 140ft waterfall in Costa Rica, plunge down a 30ft freefall waterslide in Dubai and learn deer-hunting from some gun-toting Canadians.
For good measure, the group zipped down the Thames in a speedboat when they launched the new series to the press.
Nancy, who was 70 when she first agreed to take part in the show with her son, said she is proof you are never too old to try something new.
“You shouldn't really think about your age because it's your health that's important.
“I'm in my 74th year, and I don't think about what I can or can't do. A lot of younger people come up to me and say they couldn't do the things that I do on the show and I say ‘of course you can’,” she told the Irish Independent.
Nancy, who is a grandmother to Charlotte, 19, Harry, 16, Jake, 13, Amelia 11, Hanna, five and Mahy three, said it is good to “face your fears”.
