Education cornerstone of development and progress – David Yang
In education, like in business, we need a group of enthusiastic people to bring about changes and to promote charity projects, says David Yang, a world famous Armenian-Chinese software programer and a co-founder of the international school Ayb.
In an exclusive interview with Tert.am, the author of Cybiko (the first handheld computer device for young users), the founder of innovtive restaurant and hotel business automation systems and the founding director of ABBYY, Findo and a number of other companies specializing in artificial intelligence, Mr Yang shared his ideas on the opportunities to develop businesses through education in Armenia.
He cited also success stories and interesting examples from Ayb School.
Mr Yang said he appreciates particularly the young graduates' independent choice of building their own life and future, and promoting changes.
“The major achievement is that you are the boss, you are the owner of your life, you are the person who can change your life, and this is what I feel about. It's really so touching to see these brilliant kids, who have just become adults, make their own life decisions. I feel that these people will change Armenia, change the world, and that's what we live for actually. We live to make this world a better place. It is important to create something which will live after you and without you. What is this? This is the house you built or the book you wrote or any other achivement. So creating something every time, we think about those happy moments,” he said.
Mr Yang expressed regret that his companies, which have offices in 13 world countries, are not represented in Armenia but said that they now operate restaurant automation networks in the country to facilitate communication.
Mr Yang also shared his impressions of Armenia.
“Armenia is a very beautiful country, and every time I come here, I really enjoy the people, the weather and nature. Last year I came here with my family, and we took a trip to mountains. It’s beautiful really. It will just be very natural, I think, to see this passion and historical motherland connections between Armenian people and Armenia as a country. It will become better and better; companies like PicsArt, for example, now have offices in San Fransisco which hire 300 Armenia people. And some other companies too, are becoming very popular,” he added.
Mr Yang further stressed the important role of education as a cornerstone of development of progress.
“Everything starts from education. More talented, educated people with international skills in science and arts will make Armenia attractive for businesses and vice versa. It is a cycle which actually repeats itself. You should start with all these changes - biological, psychological and social changes, people, talents, financial, business - everything. So we decided to start with education, and I think this is one of the starting points. Without education, you can’t attract business, without business you can’t attract finances, without finances you can’t actually keep people. And everything actually starts from people, ” he said.
