Russia would hail Azerbaijan’s EEU accession – Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said his country would welcome Azerbaijan’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) as he met with the faculty and students of the Diplomatic Academy of Baku.

“The Eurasian Economic Union is an open integration union. We never force anyone to join that organization,” he said, adding that the country is now considering Tajikistan’s possible integration into the bloc.

“We receive applications also from non-CIS members. We would be very happy to see also Azerbaijan in the union,” said the Russian official.
