No more obstacles to foreign investors in Armenia, Pashinyan says in St. Petersburg
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday urged Russian-Armenian businessman to expand their investments in Armenia, citing the country’s business-friendly atmosphere created after the “Velvet Revolution”.
At a meeting with Armenian entrepreneurs from Northwestern Federal District, the cabinet leader also gave his strong assurances that “all kinds of obstacles have been eliminated” to pave way to starting and developing a private business.
As an important achievement, the premier highlighted the government’s strong anti-corruption campaign which he said has largely helped eliminate corrupt practices.
Pashinyan added that their spotlight on several companies’ activity should not be perceived as an intentional attempt to target the private sector in general.
“I want us to clearly outline clear-cut frameworks to rule out a targeted campaign against a specific business. We guarantee security for investments,” he said, highlighting also the demand for legitimate entrepreneurial activity as the government’s sole expectation.
“Our desire is to create real opportunities for you to pursue your own business in Armenia in order to secure profit for yourselves, as well as for our state and people,” the prime minister added.
Pashinyan specially emphasized that the upcoming snap parliamentary elections in Armenia are "unrelated to the activities" of the private sector. “The recent changes in Armenia are irreversible, as only a government guiding itself by the logic behind the value of our revolution is authorized to be the government of Armenia. So no anti-revolution will ever take place; that’s my personal guarantee. Our time is really precious, so my call on you is not to lose the right moment [for starting your business in Armenia],” he added.
Pashinyan is in Russia to participate in the summit of the EEU member states' prime ministers.
