Armenian premier meets with Armenian community in Czech Republic

On Tuesday evening, at the Armenian Embassy in the Czech Republic Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan had a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community.

Armenia’s premier presented the results of his official visit to the Czech Republic and hailed the developing bilateral cooperation in an atmosphere of mutual confidence, which is the best guarantee of further progress in the Armenian-Czech relations. Mr Abrahamyan pointed out the need to develop bilateral economic, educational, cultural, agricultural cooperation, as well as cooperation in energy and tourism.

In the context of development of Armenian-Czech economic cooperation and trade, Mr Abrahamyan pointed out an important role of the Armenian community in the Czech Republic. He assured the attendees that Armenia’s government is willing to show an individual approach to each investment project. Speaking of Armenia’s integration with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Mr Abrahamyan noted that it opens up new opportunities for European businessmen, who could get easier access to million-strong Eurasian markets through Armenia.

Armenia’s premier stressed the need for a well-organized community, which is the only way of preserving the Armenian identity in the Armenian Diaspora.

Speaking of regional problems, particularly of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Mr Abrahamyan said that Armenia has repeatedly proved its commitment to a peaceful negotiated settlement of the conflict, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“This year the Armenians throughout the world have commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. International recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is on Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. Our approach is clear: international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is a task of not only Armenians, but also the international community, and condemnation of the heinous crime against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire is the best guarantee against new genocides,” Mr Abrahamyan said. He thanked the April 24 committee formed in the Czech Republic for high-level organization of the April events.

In conclusion, Armenia’s premier assured the attendees that Armenia’s authorities will continue their efforts to support the Armenian community in the Czech Republic.

The Armenian delegation members also answered numerous questions raised by the community members.
