Iravunq: Javakhk-Armenian MP denied entry to region

10:36 • 20.07.12

The president of the community union Javakhk, Shirak Torosyan, who represents the Republican Party faction in National Assembly, has been denied entry to the Armenian-populated Georgian region, the paper has learned.

Torosyan, who wanted to visit Javakhk to participate in cultural events dedicated to Jivani [an 19th century Armenian bard and poet who descended from Javakhk] reportedly had to return from the border checkpoint. He was not allowed to cross the border without being given any written or oral explanation, says the paper.

Iravunq has talked to the Javakhk-Armenian MP to know his opinion on what it claims to be the Georgian foul play:

“What should I think about this? It’s too bad I am denied,” he was quoted as saying.

Asked whether he tried to solve the problem through diplomatic channels or the Foreign Ministry, Torosyan said the questions are not something new.

“Those are outdated questions. We said that a hundred times and tried to do something, discussed it a lot, but the Georgian side remains firm,” he told the paper.
