Armenian liberal party to back Serzh Sargsyan

The United Liberal National Party (MIAK) decided at a Thursday board session to endorse President Serzh Sargsyan in the upcoming polls.

In a statement adopted after the meeting, the representatives of the party have expressed appreciation of the developments in the past five years, particularly focusing on Armenia’s ability to resist and neutralize the global economic crisis impact, conduct more active foreign policy and adopt stronger positions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process.

They have also addressed the notable progress in Armenia’s European integration efforts, the activities making the social policies more targeted at larger groups of the society, and the more comprehensive and effective fight against corruption and injustice.

“We had a tangible progress in the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms and the accomplishment of the civil society,” reads the statement.

Noting that the achievement are still accompanied by problems requiring an urgent solutions, the party further proposes steps which it thinks may ensure significant results in the near future.

“The Armenian presidential election is the number one event of 2013. MIAK’s decision in connection with this political development is unquestionable: we extend our support to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and will endorse his candidacy in the February 18, 2003 polls. This decision results from a collaboration that lasted more than five years.

Confident about our candidate’s landslide victory, we expect and will do all our best in the coming five years to actively continue:

- The second generation reforms whose outcomes will be targeted at enhancing the society’s standards of life and promoting a sustainable development;

- The political generation change and the involvement new human resources in the state administration process;

- The dynamic growth trends in the economic sector;

- The strengthening of our country’s positions in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process and the initiatives aimed at promoting integration to Europe and reputable international organizations;

- The development of relations with our strategic ally, Russia, as well as the United States and the EU countries;

- The fruitful efforts towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the elimination of its consequences;

- The consolidation of the Armenians’ potential on the global level and the fostering of the Homeland-Diaspora cooperation;

- The democratic reforms and targeted fight against the faulty phenomena and stereotypes undermining the society,” says the statement.
