Top US national security official 'planning trip to Armenia'
US National Security Advisor John Bolton has announced a plan to visit Armenia as part of a regional trip to the South Caucasus.
“On October 20th I'll be travelling to Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia to meet with my counterparts and other senior officials to advance American interests on a range of security issues,” he said in a post on Twitter.
In an interview with Tert.am earlier this week, political analyst Suren Sargsyan said he treats US official’s scheduled trip as an opportunity to balance the consequences of the 100-member humanitarian mission to be dispatched to Syria.
“It is also possible to propose a new agenda in terms of deepening the bilateral relations with the United States. And that agenda must by all means cover bilateral military cooperation, and business. We have very important steps to make in this connection given that Bolton is among the architects of the anti-Russian and anti-Iranian sanctions. So Armenia must demonstrate that those sanctions will affect its economy. And hence this issue too, is really actual and needs consideration,” he said.
